For You CYCI #88

IMG_6209 with mark11825235_10206769486731177_6588342167293212771_nThis week’s Can You Case It (CYCI) Challenge is “Designers Choice.” I chose to feature a tiled card that has been watercolored with Stampin’ Up! Classic ink pads and Aqua Painters. I also wanted to use our new Fine-Tip Glue Pen which I am PSYCHED about! So before going into the details of the card, I want to share this video that Stampin’ Up! produced on how to use this incredible new adhesive.

Creating Tiled Panels:
On my card, the main image has been cut into tiled panels. Creating tiles out of one image simply adds more allure to your focal point. These tiles work aesthetically when the “grout” (for lack of a better description)  eliminates part of the image.

After stamping and painting the flower, I determined where I wanted to make my cuts. After marking the cut lines on the artwork, I cut on both sides of my pencil marks eliminating roughly 3/16″ of the image creating a “grout” area. I then adhered them to the card base leaving the 3/16″ space between each piece.

Watercoloring with Aqua Painters:
There are few things more fun in the stamping world than painting with our Aqua Painters. It’s like magic the way our ink pads convert immediately into paint palettes. Stampin’ Up!’s Aqua Painters make the BEST paint brushes, too, because they contain their own water and will never dry out because you simply refill them with water. For a video on how to watercolor, go here.

Adhering Sequins:
A new glue is in town … it’s Stampin’ Up!’s Fine Tip Glue Pen. This is the PERFECT adhesive when you’re working with small objects like sequins. It’s also GREAT when you need to adhere whisper thin pieces of cardstock such as those that some of our thinlits create.

Video – Flurry of Wishes for CYCI87

CYCI85 watermarka11224460_10206769484131112_2818570907165965559_nThis week’s CYCI Challenge is to stamp a card with three hues of blue with neutrals. Being eager to try a technique called “reverse masking,” I set out to make a winter themed card using Stampin’ Up!’s new Flurry of Wishes stamp set and Snow Flurry Punch, which are available separately or as a bundle.

Reverse Masking:
With reverse masking, everything is covered except for the image and the image is shaded with an ink color. I created the mask using the Snow Flurry punch as well as the Flower Medallion punch which also coordinates with this stamp set. See my video tutorial below for more information on this technique.

Masking Out Part of the Greeting:
One of the greetings in this stamp set is “Sending you a flurry of warm Christmas wishes.” I only wanted “Christmas Wishes” to appear on my card. I used Scotch tape to cover the words I didn’t want to stamp. I inked the stamp with Memento Black ink and then removed the tape leaving ink on only those words that I wanted. I then stamped my greeting on the card. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. 🙂

Very Merry for CYCI86

IMG_6238aI’ve been anxiously waiting for the opportunity to use the new Merry Moments DSP Stack. I love these big, colorful dots. So when I saw the sketch for this week’s Can You Case It Challenge, I knew I had my moment.

11836738_10206769480411019_7362673395530023381_nClearance Rack Special:
Our new Sketch is a clean, simple layout that, to me, screams for a big ole’ ribbon. The ribbon I used here is the Cherry Cobbler 1″ Sheer Linen Ribbon, #135839. You can find it on Stampin’ Up!’s Clearance Rack for only $3.19. You can’t beat that! And it’s perfect for Christmas. Head over to my online store now and order a roll or two now while supplies last. And while you’re at it, check out the other amazing deals by clicking the Clearance Rack button in the right sidebar.

Are you Seeing Dots?
The big, colorful dots in our new Merry Moments DSP Stack coordinate beautifully with the Large Polka Dot Embossing Folder as shown here.  In fact, this embossing folder was one of the first thing I thought of when I discovered this awesome DSP.

Amazing Greeting Stamp Set:
And Many More is one of those stamp sets that I go back to frequently. It has a greeting for every holiday, celebration and season. Do you need a Halloween stamp, it’s here. One appropriate for a graduation or new baby? Yep. Mothers Day and Fathers Day, too? Yesserie. It has it all.

So Grateful for You

IMG_619811825088_10206769454170363_2438920406644018266_nIt’s time to play again with Can You Case It. This week we have a color challenge of browns, blues and yellows. For my interpretation of CYCI #85, I used Stampin’ Up! colors Soft Suede, Soft Sky and Delightful Dijon and the new stamp set Lighthearted Leaves.

I originally wanted the base of my card to be one of the colors of the challenge but I wasn’t happy with those three options of cardstock. I thought the colored background took away from the focal point of the diecut leaves. In the end I decided to keep the base of my card white but I did bring in a little color with the strips of Bohemian DSP in Delightful Dijon.

framelitsThe Leaflets Framelits from the Annual Catalog coordinate with this stamp set.  After stamping and diecutting the leaves, I added white accents with our uni-ball Signo Gel Pen and popped then popped them up with dimensionals. Each leaf was then adorned with a tiny 1/8″ Gold ribbon.

Believe in the Miracle, Be Touched by Peace

IMG_6178Flurry BundleI’m in Bundle heaven! Stampin’ Up!’s new Holiday Catalog is filled to the brim with awesome bundles. The Flurry of Wishes and Snow Flurry Punch Bundle on page 26 is just one example.

IMG_6184The punch I used here, however, is the Flower Medallion Punch from the Annual Catalog. It also coordinates with this stamp set.

I punched the bottom left area of the card front with the Flower Medallion Punch to create a peek-a-boo window. I then stamped and punched the large snowflake on Whisper White and used dimensionals to pop it out of the “window.” IMG_6181Now when the card is opened, the white snowflake remains inside the card. I used our uni-ball Signo Gel Pen to write inside the card.

Creating the double banner:
The greetings on the two banners came from one stamp. I stamped the image once and then used my Stampin’ Trimmer to cut thin strips to isolate two of the three sentiments on that stamp. I then used my Paper Snips to create bannered edges before adhering them to my card.

IMG_6179Emphasizing Ice Crystals:
The snowflakes on the base of the card are heat embossed with Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder. It gives the snowflakes that perfect crystallized appearance. For an added chill factor, the white snowflake is adorned with one of our new Winter Wonderland Embellishments. Oo la la!!!

Video – Watercolor Background Technique with Sheltering Tree

IMG_6155I was inspired the other night while “cruising” through Pinterest. I came across a group of cards that had a gorgeous watercolor background with a pretty silhouetted image. I gathered the 2014-2016 In Color Stampin’ Write Markers, “I” acrylic block, Stampin’ Spritzers and Sheltering Tree and got “in the zone.” The Stamping Zone.

For directions on how to recreate this watercolor effect with the items mentioned above, see my video tutorial below.

IMG_6156I wanted my tree to really “pop.” After stamping it with Early Espresso, I stamped it again with VersaMark and heat embossed it with Clear Embossing Powder. While the embossed image was still hot from the heat gun, I sprinkled another layer of embossing powder and heat set it again. I repeated this step a total of five times. The end result was a super glossy, raised image. Love it!
