Birthday Blossoms for Pals Paper Arts

thankyouToday’s card design was inspired by the Pals Paper Arts Challenge #258, a color challenge using Pacific Point, Watermelon Wonder and Cucumber Crush.

Edit July 7th – – The color challenge actually calls for Night of Navy and I used Pacific Point. I don’t know how I managed that … Good grief!

6a00e54f95df92883401b7c7a76b46970b-piI love all three of these colors but hadn’t used them together. That’s the great thing about these Challenges – they make you step outside of your comfort zone (a.k.a. “been-there-done-that” zone) and make you try something different.

Creating Tone-On-Tone:
I wanted a muted stamped background. First I tried Cucumber Crush ink on the Cucumber Crush cardstock. The ink was too dark and distracting. The next time around I tried stamping the flowers with VersaMark ink. The end result was much more muted and suitable for this design.

Adding Dimension:
After stamping the flowers in the white panel and coloring them with Stampin’ Write Markers, I punched the flowers from the Itty Bitty Accent Punch Pack and adhered them to the panel on top of same-color flowers. A little pearl in the center of each flower gave it that extra panache.

That “pop” of color:
The greeting was made with the Hello You Thinlits. The hubs thought the Watermelon Wonder letters got lost on the Cucumber Crush cardstock and suggested I use Whisper White. Say what??? I think it pops out in a psychodelic way. Does it work? Does it hurt your eyes? I like it but it is different. But hey,  I was following the Challenge which makes one create differently. And that’s good, right?

  1. I do like the watermelon wonder hello! And it is different, but exciting too. I am just curious… used pacific point but the color challenge under your card lists night of navy.
