Techniques with Irresistibly Yours DSP, Scallop Punch – and Aluminum Foil!

I was recently inspired by three cards on Pinterest that had the interesting color combination of Daffodil Delight, Basic Grey and Whisper White. She had used a sheet of Neutral Color Collection DSP in Basic Grey. I LOVED those cards and  I wanted to make something similar but I didn’t have the Neutral Color Collection DSP. But wait … I could make them with our new Irresistibly Yours DSP.
No way! Way!!!

bikeThis pint-sized card measuring 3-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ has three techniques that are easy to replicate. A video tutorial will follow with explanation.

Irresistibly Yours DSP
This non-descript item is often over-looked in our Sale-A-Bration catalog. It doesn’t photograph well. It just looks like white paper. Whoop dee do, right? Wrong! These sheets of DSP have beautiful patterns on them that are clear embossed onto the sheets. They are classic used as is. But the magic appears when you add color to them, like Smoky Slate here, with a brayer, sponge, or inked spritzer. And Irresistibly Yours DSP is FREE now through March 31st with qualifying orders!

Decorative Dot Silver Foil DSP?
No. It’s aluminum foil that was sent through the Big Shot with Stampin’ Up!’s Decorative Dot embossing folder.

Starburst Punch
Stampin’ Up! doesn’t have a starburst punch like the yellow piece here. But it can be made with our 1-3/4″ Scalloped Circle Punch.

If you don’t have a copy of our new Occasions or Sale-A-Bration catalogs, please leave me a message. I’ll be happy to send copies to you. Place a minimum order of $50 in product and get Irresistibly Yours DSP or any other item from our Sale-A-Bration catalog for FREE.

A Lightbulb Moment for Pals Paper Arts Challenge #241

lightbulbFor those of you familiar with my blog, you know that I like to participate in various Sketch Challenges. My card today, for instance, is the current challenge for Pals Paper Arts (PPA).

PPA PickBut before I get into today’s post, I wanted to toot my own horn for a bit. My card for the last PPA Challenge, which you can see here, was one of three cards selected for the Pals Paper Arts Winner Circle. This is a huge honor and I have been giddy ever since! Here’s my badge that I post with great delight!

PPA241Today’s project is one that just kind of evolved. My first objective was to design a card for the PPA Challenge #241. I knew I wanted to use the You Brighten My Day stamp set (FREE with qualifying orders) and several punches. I started with the house stamp and star punches from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack, but that wasn’t really working. And then I had that “lightbulb” moment. I grabbed the lightbulb and heart stamps, the heart punch and the “you warm my heart” greeting from Sheltering Tree.  Now that worked!
How cool was that (in a warm kind of way)???

 Featured Products for this Project:
Crystal Effects:

Since lightbulbs are made of glass, it only made sense to use the product that I boast as “glass-like.” Crystal Effects is a fun accessory to have on hand. Squeeze it on anything that you want to pop up with sheen and dimension. Like this lightbulb. I also used it here on the tulip bulbs. It’s a fun last-minute add-on that lifts your stamped projects up a notch!
Brights Backgrounds Designer Series Papers:
One of the first packs of DSP that I purchased as a new consultant was this one. This hot little item is a must-have for several reasons:
1) It’s a great deal! 40 sheets of 12 x 12 paper (2 each of 2 double-sided designs in 10 colors),
2) The designs! Chevrons are popular these days and there are two different sizes of chevrons. Polka dots go with everything! And the pretty lattice design is dense with color which is great for projects with intricate elements,
3) The colors! While my knee-jerk response is to say that Regal tones are my favorite, I tend to use the Brights Collection more than anything else. Who knew?
4) Acid Free and Lignin free! Perfect for memory keeping!

You Warm My Heart

yourwarmmyheart

With all the wintry weather we’ve been having, we all need something to warm us up. So here’s something to “warm your heart!”

When I grabbed my Painted Bloom DSP pack, I already had in mind that I wanted to punch a large “window” in my card for the DSP to peek through. I chose this particular sheet for three reasons. First, it coordinates well with the Flower Medallion Punch.  Secondly, the pattern and dark Blackberry Bliss color in the paper are dense enough to uphold the flower shape of the punch. And lastly, I LOVE the look of a monochromatic card. Don’t you?

Happy Birthday with Birthday Bash … And Many More…

star_birthdaycard
Does this design look similar to my post yesterday? It is!! As I mentioned yesterday, I had two different cards of similar design that my moms and daughters could choose to make at our Mother Daughter Stamp Club on Saturday. This is the more youthful version that I thought for sure the young girls would choose. But they surprised me by choosing the more grown-up design which you can see HERE. Then they put their own spin on it! I can tell I’m going to like stamping with these very creative, young ladies.

The DSP I used in this version is Birthday Bash which can be found in our Occasions catalog. “I saw stars” stars-hiwhen I grabbed that paper from the stack so I knew I was going to use the star punch from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack. As I was punching the stars out and adhering them to the card I thought, “How fun would that be to include star confetti in the envelope?” So I did! 🙂

I then gift-wrapped the card with Hello Honey Satin Stitched Ribbon as well as the Gold 1/8″ Ribbon. I wrapped one ribbon at a time around the card and tape it into place on the backside.

The greeting is from the And Many More stamp set. If you need a good greeting stamp set, this is a great choice! I like that each greeting is a different font. It’s a playful stamp set to work with!

Don’t forget about our Sale-A-Bration event that’s going on now through March 31st. For every $50 of product that you purchase from our Annual and Occasions catalogs, you can choose a FREE item from the Sale-A-Bration catalog.

Sale-A-Bration is also a great time to order a Starter Kit from  Stampin’ Up! There are extra freebies at this time for new members. Leave a comment or reach out to me at amymwhelan@comcast.net for more information.

Happy Birthday with Best Year Ever … And Many More…

flowerhappybday

I had my first Mother/Daughter stamp club last night. The girls are middle-school aged. It was fascinating for me to watch them stamping along side their moms. After giving everyone directions on how I made my samples, I mother_and_daughter_by_frontpagenews12-d54yqzb.pngwatched the moms carefully recreate what I had made while the girls thought outside the box and made their own versions. How cool is that?

I always have a greeting card and then some sort of gift item. This was one of two cards that they could choose from. The two cards are of the same design, but they have different punches and DSPs. This was the more sophisticated of the two. The other, which image2you will see tomorrow, is more playful. Whimsical. Youthful. The young girls chose to make this more sophisticated version!

Moral of the evening – – these young girls have a lot to teach me! 🙂

Let Your DSP Do The Talking
I started with Best Year Ever DSP (from the Sale-A-Bration catalog) and the card fell into place on its own.
The colors (Calypso Coral, Coastal Cabana, Crushed Curry, Sahara Sand, Soft Suede and Whisper White) are sooo yummy together so I grabbed a sheet of each.
The design in the DSP was flower-like, so I grabbed the flower punch out of my Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack as well as a few circle punches.
Bada-bing, bada boom. Punch, punch, punch. I was done. So … if you’re having a creative block, pull out your nearest DSP and let it “talk to you.”

The greeting was stamped with the And Many More stamp set.

Punch Happy with Happy Thing!

lemon case

I’m on a punch kick. Especially circle punches. Over the next several days you’re going to see a lot of projects with circle punches. This project started the “kick” because I was designing a card for CAS(E) This Sketch # 110. Which I CTS_Sketch_110didn’t post on the CAS(E) This Sketch website in time. <<sigh>>. But it was fun coming up with this interpretation anyway.

I’ve used two stamp sets here: A Happy Thing and Lotus Blossum. A Happy Thing has it’s own greetings which I could have used, but I’m always in need of thank you cards which is why I chose this sentiment from Lotus Blossom.

And guess what … both A Happy Thing and Lotus Blossum are stamp sets from the Sale-A-Bration (SAB) catalog that you can earn for FREE. Our SAB promotion runs through March 31st. For every $50 worth of product that you purchase from our Annual and Occasions catalogs, you can select one of these SAB items for FREE!

If you don’t have a copy of our new Occasions or Sale-A-Bration catalogs, please leave me a message. I’ll be happy to send copies to you.

Now is a great time to become a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator too. During our SAB event, new demonstrators can add two products from our SAB catalog of their choice – or one of the kits from our Occasions catalog – to their starter kit. That’s in addition to the $125 worth of product that you choose for only $99! Whether you’re interested in starting a Stampin’ Up! business, or just want to receive the 20% discount on product, I’d love to hear from you. Or you can go here to get started!

Celebrate Today with Fun Folds!!!

It’s Winter Break in Cherokee County, GA. The weather is cold, wet and icy. In other words perfect for staying indoors and stamping!!! I am one happy camper “stamper”!balloonbirthday

Today’s project was inspired by Pals Paper Arts Challenge #240. #240All of the circles made me think of the hot air balloon in Stampin’ Up!’s Celebrate Today stamp set. From there my idea “took off.”

A video tutorial will follow.

Adding Whimsy with a Fun Fold:
This is a tri-panel card. I started with Whisper White cardstock measuring 10-3/8″ x 5-1/2″ and scored it at 2-1/4″and 6-3/8″. Once folded closed, the card’s width is only 4″ which is what I wanted so that there would be room within the envelope for the hot air balloon to be floating off the card’s edge.

This is what it looks like when the card is opened.card_inside

.card_open

Creating depth by “fudging” multi-sized balloons:
In Celebrate Today there is only one size of the hot air balloon and basket. But I needed three sizes of circles for the PPA challenge and I wanted my design to feature balloons far off in the distance.
So how did I make three different sizes?
I used  our 1-3/8″ and 2″ circle punches and layered them on the card to cover up where the smaller baskets would have been.
Note: When diecutting the balloons on the front of the card, also diecut a Whisper White piece for each. Mount each DSP balloon to its white version. The second layer gives the balloons more support and it gives the card a clean white appearance from the backside.

Why Did I Choose Best Year Ever DSP?
One of the patterns looks like clouds in a blue sky. The others are vibrant, fun and perfect for the hot air balloons. But the “Best” reason is because Best Year Ever is one of the FREE items you can earn from the Sale-A-Bration catalog. See details here.
While the blue in Best Year Ever is actually Coastal Cabana, I think Pool Party coordinates well with it.

Watercoloring with Stampin’ Up!’s Aqua Painters and Classic Ink Pads

“Let your stamps work for you.” That’s my mantra. If you’re investing in Stampin’ Up! product for your own enjoyment, then use them to make gifts for others too. That way, your stamping supplies pay for themselves!

And here’s one of those quick and easy gift items that you can make with Stampin’ Up!’s Scallop Gift Tag Topper punch. It’s watercolored with our Aqua Painters and Classic Ink Pads and is finished off with ribbon and Crystal Effects. Oo la la! A video tutorial follows.tagart
